Skill Set: Well, just look at the cute little dickens!
While Bollywood's premiere chimpsploitation star Pedro, the Ape Bomb is possessed of many talents, there is one area in which he is soundly lacking: adorableness. And that's where Zippy comes in. Unfortunately, if Memsaab's review is to believed, Zippy's adorableness is all that Insaniyat has going for it. On the plus side, though, if we are to further believe the above screencap, he also has the power of speech! Pedro, we heard, also had the power of speech, but had to have his dialogue dubbed over with chimp sounds due to his propensity for reciting heart-stoppingly obscene limericks whenever within earshot of a microphone. No such unsavory behavior for our Zippy, though, as his only desire in life is to be your own special widdle cuddly wuddly woo woo. Okay, I just threw up a little bit.

I must admit that I am disappointed that Shabbir Kumar howling for Moti the wonder dog hasn't made it yet. :) I wish too there was a decent forum to confirm whether the same Moti went on to pee on Bob Christo's head.
Have no fear, for I have a Netflix copy of Teri Meherbanivan sitting atop my DVD player at this very moment. I just haven't gotten around to watching it yet. One of the reasons for that is that, despite the lure of Moti's presence, nothing that you've said about it indicates that it's a particularly good film! I promise to get to it before the Animalympics is done, though.
Todd. Don't say "widdle cuddly wuddly woo woo." It makes the earth stop spinning.
PS I otherwise approve heartily of this post and am delighted to make the acquaintance of Zippy. My life needs more ani-pals!
So did you in the US ever see the excellent "Johny Sacko and his Flying Robot" tv serial? Right up your alley. A giant robot that flies! And shoots bullets from its fingertips! and is commanded by a boy speaking into a wristwatch!
Beth: You don't have to tell me. I've learned my lesson. In fact, I'm still having trouble keeping anything down.
Sunil: "Johnny Socko" was a staple of my after school TV watching regimen during the mid 70s. It's part of what made me who I am today.
ah! Same to same but in the early 80s. :) Last time I had googled for it, there used to be NOTHING on the web except some throw-away commnents in imdb.
You'll probably find more information if you search for it under its original Japanese name. This is because American nerds will literally burst into flame if they have to refer to anything Japanese by anything other than its Japanese name. It's a scientific fact.
As an addendum: That Wikipedia article pointed out Emperor Guillotine's resemblance to Cthulhu, which really makes me wish I'd reviewed an episode of Johnny Sokko for Teleport City's Lovecraft month.
Also, fun fact: Yumiko Katayama, who played the lone female member of the Unicorn organization, went on to be a sort of go-to girl for gratuitous nudity in Toei's Pinky Violence movies from the 70s.
Sadly Zippy did not speak, that is somebody else's subtitle.
But he did outperform both Dilip Kumar AND Dev Anand, which is no small feat.
I kind of thought that was the case, but I'm just going to go on believing that he could talk anyway.
I think had he been in a better movie, he would have done all kinds of things that he chose not to in this one :-)

And I thought I proved my nerd credentials when I used to argue against all my friends in class. Classmates believed Johhny was the kid and Socko was Jerry Mano. They argued Jerry was too important not to be in the title, english grammar be dammned.
Another kid broke my heart by talking about seeing a man shoot bullets from his fingertips on the show. Only latter I happily realized he didn't have a vocabulary for robot. :)
Oh Zippy, you little rascal. I hope he did more movies then just this one!!
