Fighting Femmes, Fiends, and Fanatics Episode 11: Darna, the Return

This latest episode of Fighting Femmes, Fiends, and Fanatics finds yours truly once again in the guest host seat, this time discussing one of my favorite subjects: the beloved and many-lived Filipino superheroine Darna.

  1. A wonderful presentation! You've convinced me to look up some Darna movies, especially The Return.

  3. Brick shit house is right, well put. I've been watching all sorts of Asian films for decades and still haven't caught up to any Darna films. I think I'm overdue.

  4. The Vilma Santos Darna films are also a lot of fun, if you can find them, especially Darna and the Giants and Darna vs. The Planet Women.

  5. Hurray for Darna! :D

I was thinking, given all the superhero movies Hollywood is cranking out now, isn't it time for a new Darna movie. According to Wikipedia, there was a TV series in 2005 and 2009. Have you seen or heard anything about these?

  6. I, too, was thinking we were past due for a new Darna feature, but I haven't heard of there being any in the offing. It was impossible to avoid pictures of recent TV Darnas Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera while searching for images for this episode of FFFF, but I have to admit I haven't watched either series. Anybody?

  7. I got them on DVD-R from someone quite a while ago. I honestly can't remember who. However, most of the Vilma Santos Darna movies are available in full on YouTube. A simple Google search would have revealed this.

  8. English subtitled episodes of the Darna TV show is found at Viki. I want to know your opinion of that show.

PLEASE NOTE: I do not sell, trade, upload or otherwise provide copies of the films that I review on this site, so please don’t ask.

Please, no questions about where to download films or subtitle files. If you are asking about the availability of a reviewed film on DVD, please make sure that you have first conducted a simple search of the film’s title on Google, eBay, and Amazon. That usually works for me.

Everyone else, BRING IT ON!
