Back in December, I wrote a review for my site The Lucha Diaries of the 1970 Thai film Insee Thong, the last of a series of films starring Thai superstar Mitr Chaibancha as the masked hero The Red Eagle. An updated version of that review has just been posted over at Teleport City which includes a couple bits of new information I gleaned from the kind and knowledgeable commentors over at Wise Kwai's Thai Film Journal, mainly in the form of corrected film titles and dates. I also took the opportunity to add a few more screen caps. This was a really fun piece for me to write on what -- to me, at least -- is a really fascinating subject, so I hope y'all will take the time to check it out if you haven't already.

Red Eagle redux

Please, no questions about where to download films or subtitle files. If you are asking about the availability of a reviewed film on DVD, please make sure that you have first conducted a simple search of the film’s title on Google, eBay, and Amazon. That usually works for me.

I'm glad for the chance to read this review again. The opening paragraph is pure poetry. It almost makes me want to give old Mitr another try. Speaking of which, I don't think you lent me Jao Insee, did you?
ReplyDeleteI blush! What can I say? The sight of Mitr Chaibancha in a pit-stained cowboy shirt inspires me to new lyric heights.
ReplyDeleteOf the three Red Eagle films I watched, I found Jao Insee to be the slowest and most baffling (as I recall, there's another male character who, for some reason, gets an awful lot of screen time at the expense of Mitr), but, as you can see from the screen caps, there are still some very cool moments and amazing looking scenes.
