As I clearly stated, I am not an expert on this subject -- more of a curious novice -- and so won't argue your points. In any case, I hope your lack of satisfaction with this post was compensated for by the opportunity it provided you to vent spleen. It's fortunate that you have all of those other English language blogs writing about early Mongolian cinema to turn to.

BTW, readers who come to this site with their sense of humor engaged would recognize that "commie" tag as "a Joke".Toddhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15890338576052689861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118098779778491600.post-2106024733660653522014-03-18T14:47:31.073-07:002014-03-18T14:47:31.073-07:00Ok... sorry to be rough about your "groping&q...Ok... sorry to be rough about your "groping" here, because you've done a great job in sharing what you thought. Here's my five cents.

1. The movie is "TSOGT Taij." Not "Tsog Taij."

2. One Russian music composer of multiple Mongolian music composers (do you ever see a movie without a single foreign composer?) and one lab assistant/light technician with Russian sounding name, out of the total cast/crew of hundreds of Mongols, don't mean "an influx of Soviet funding and talent." Who knows, though? You could be right. I mean, barbarian-nomadic Mongolians couldn't have done a movie without significant assistance, right?!

3. Have you ever seen a "rousing period war picture," covering another time period, FILMED IN 1945 with the kind of "dynamism" you are hoping for? You have to remember technical limitations of even 30 years ago with manual film splicing, no digital manipulation, no pan movement arm or anything on field scenes, not to mention needing to hold your breath during shoots because sound editing was a nightmare! Had to film on a non-windy day because of it, etc. because the mic picks up slight breezes. Cameras were huge and unwieldy... shadows of the whole crew and the microphones, wires needed to be carefully monitored on top of all noise, etc. And you sound like you're hoping for special effects. I can bet you that if Mongolia got Soviet assistance on this film, it's probably in the form of how Mongolians bought already used, old film equipment circa 1920/30s from USSR, and made do.

4. "Losing sight of such objectives in the course of pursuing other priorities"... lol. The movie isn't getting its priority wrong. You're getting it's priorities wrong... It was funded by the government and, I am pretty sure that government at the time wasn't seeking to entertain or "educate" you or our modern audience.

5. Tag "Commies"... Really?! That's all you can think of? Alright.Misheel Chuluunhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00997343519734993047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118098779778491600.post-17711125904709588102010-11-05T13:39:37.916-07:002010-11-05T13:39:37.916-07:00Yeah, this would be a perfect film for Danny Dezon...Yeah, this would be a perfect film for Danny Dezongpa in a big furry hat, wouldn't it?Toddhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15890338576052689861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7118098779778491600.post-14277929364853935952010-11-05T10:32:02.547-07:002010-11-05T10:32:02.547-07:00LOL at your post tag (Commies)...I keep seeing Dan...LOL at your post tag (Commies)...I keep seeing Danny Denzongpa in your screen shots.
